Sustainable exhibition stand for Broekhof at Global Produce & Floral Show Project Overview

This sustainable exhibition stand for Broekhof was designed and built by Booth Exhibits for the Global Produce & Floral Show. Broekhof is a Dutch packaging company with operations in Florida, supplying recyclable packaging to the floral and fresh produce sector. For the 2024 event, they didn’t want to just talk about sustainability — they wanted the stand itself to prove it. Everything needed to reflect what they actually do. We designed and built a fully recyclable cardboard exhibition stand that mirrored their packaging solutions, combining strength, simplicity, and a more honest approach to sustainable design.

Booth Specifications

Location: Anaheim Convention Center, California

Stand Type: Peninsula

Size: 18 m2

Client: Broekhof USA

The Problem

  • Design a stand to clearly represent Broekhof’s cardboard-based packaging products.
  • Ensure the space itself acted as a visual metaphor for the company’s commitment to sustainable design.
  • Develop a concept constructed using only fully recyclable, lightweight, and environmentally responsible materials.
  • Keep the design structurally sound, visually striking, and capable of withstanding the demands of a busy exhibition event.
  • Reduce drayage and logistics costs as much as possible.
  • Make sure the stand could be flat-packed, easily transported, and reused when the event ended.

Broekhof wanted a show-stopping exhibition presence aligned with their product lineup and core sustainability values, genuine sustainable construction rather than greenwashing.

The Solution

Booth Exhibits™ designed and built the first sustainable exhibition stand in the United States built entirely from cardboard.

Key elements of the solution:

  • A honeycomb-core recycled cardboard carried the entire structure, with durable cardboard facings on both sides.
  • Strategic material manipulation, removing sections of skin, cutting relief patterns, and bending surfaces allowed us to shape the cardboard into curved, sculptural forms echoing Broekhof’s packaging aesthetic.
  • All product displays, shelving, counters, and feature elements were built from the same material to create a unified, sustainable environment.
  • The stand was engineered to be lightweight, thereby reducing drayage fees at the event.
  • All components were designed to flat-pack, allowing for low-cost transportation and storage.
  • After the event, the entire stand was repacked into a single pallet and shipped back to Broekhof’s Florida offices, where they reassembled it as an in-office display for customers and staff.
  • The stand balanced creativity, brand storytelling, and structural integrity, showcasing what’s possible when sustainability drives the design process.

The project became a standout example of how sustainable materials can drive exhibition design innovation.

The Result

Broekhof’s stand became one of the most talked-about installations at the Global Produce & Floral Show.

Outcomes included:

  • Extensive attention from visitors, exhibitors, and show organisers, Broekhof was the only fully cardboard stand on the show floor.
  • Broekhof’s area became a live demonstration of the company’s product capabilities, strengthening their brand messaging and industry positioning.
  • Significant cost savings on drayage and show services was achieved, thanks to the stand’s lightweight construction.
  • Logistics were simplified and the stand could be flat-packed into a small footprint, shipped affordably, and reused.
  • Post-show, the display found a second life in Broekhof’s Florida office as a permanent brand installation.
  • Client feedback offered praise for the creativity, authenticity, and impact of the design, noting that it perfectly represented who they are and what they stand for.

This project allowed us to lead by example in sustainable exhibition design, delivering a first-of-its-kind cardboard exhibition stand in the US and proving that environmentally responsible design can still be bold, beautiful, and commercially effective
